The Beginner’s Guide to Dogs

A Few Reasons Why Dogs Must Undergo Training

Dogs are different from people. Dogs have special needs and they communicate or behave differently compared to people. So when you decide to bring a dog home, you cannot expect them to immediately fit in. It is necessary that you spend time to get to know your dog’s needs and in the process, let them know of your expectations, too. Dog training is not meant for dogs alone. It can be beneficial to you, too.

One way to ensure an ideal relationship with your dog is through dog training. Through training, you can teach your dog good manners and help him or her become civilized. Through training, you can let your dog learn a number of tasks and/or activities by using different cues and commands. It is in a dog’s nature to learn by interacting with their environment and with the help of different training procedures, they can learn fast. If you decide to train your dog, they can learn how to be polite and this can turn into lifelong habits.

There are a lot of things you can teach a dog. Most pet owners, however, decide to go through house training first. This is because the first few weeks of owning a dog is considered most difficult. House training is one way of keeping your dog on the right track from the moment you bring him or her home. However, it is recommended to do this when your puppy is already between 12 and 16 weeks old. They already know how to control their bladder and bowel movements at this age. To house train your puppy, establishing a routine is necessary. Let them get used to a regular schedule. This way, they will learn that there are specific times for eating, playing and relieving themselves. When eliminating, you will need to designate a spot for your dog outside your home. Every time they are able to eliminate correctly, you should reinforce the behavior. If you cannot spend as much with your dog to supervise him or her, you can also try crate training. Dog crates serve as your dog’s personal space. They won’t want to soil in their crates so it is considered an essential tool in house training. You just have to keep in mind that there are proper procedures to undertake when crate training dogs.

Dog training may take a long while before producing results. You may have to spend a lot of time just learning the basics. Because of this, taking your dog to training classes may be preferable. You can find a suitable instructor for your dog to ensure that his or her needs are being met while you are not around. You can start training your dog from 9 to 16 weeks of age. You can look for training courses based on what you believe your dog needs the most.
